External Curriculum Review Workshop has been carried out to launch new PhD programs in Physics. In the opening program Mr. Sebsibe Muanenda (Ass.Professor) Dean, College of Natural and Computational Sciences, has delivered a welcoming address. Furthermore, Dr. Habte Dula , Academic affairs vice president has also made an opening speech.
In his opening remark Dr. Habte said that “Today is a historical moment since our University is preparing to launch PhD program and two specialty programs are already opened for the first time.” Dr. Habte also added that relevant graduate scholarship & research is expected to contribute for the development needs of the country by producing citizens equipped with skills in innovation and technology. He also said that the program is a sandwich one between the Yancheng Institute of Technology in China and Wolkite UnIversity in which students are expected to do two years of lab/research work in China.
Dr. Yonatan Mulushewa has presented the proposed curriculum and it was very exhaustive and detailed. The programs were the following:-
- PhD in Condensed Matter of Physics
- PhD in Material Science
- PhD in Statistical and Computational Physics
- PhD in Quantum Optics and Information
- PhD in Space Physics
Based on the presentation participants and invited guests were raised very constructive suggestion and comments. Invited guests for the External Curriculum Review Workshop program were Dr. Belayneh Mesfin (Associate Professor) from Addis Ababa University, Dr. Mesfin Asfaw (Associate Professor) from Adama Science & Technology University & Dr. Solomon Tiruneh (Associate Professor) from Adama Science & Technology University. The external reviewers were very proficient, resourceful and experienced and they shared their ample experience for the participants. Their contribution will help greatly for the success of launching of the program. The workshop has created tremendous opportunity to build relationship, to engage in a dialogue, to share best practices and to challenge each other in alignment for the instigation of the program
