                 Biography:-

Mr. Shiferaw was received his first degree in Biology in 2005 and second degree in Applied Genetics in 2015 from Dilla University and Addis Ababa University, respectively. Since 2005, he has been working as a teacher and laboratory technician at preparatory school, Addis Ababa and very recently as a lecturer and researcher at Wolkite University. He has been delivering various courses of Biology such as molecular biology, principles of genetics, cell biology, evolution, Fundamental Biotechnology and Biochemistry. He has participated and benefited from core training such as ‘Basic Bioinformatics, Techniques in Molecular Biology And LAMP’ organized by Ethiopian Biotechnology Institute and Institute of Biotechnology, Addis Ababa University; in collaboration with University of Calgary, Canada, training on “Design And Analysis of Experiments, Publication of Papers on Scientific Journals” delivered by Prof. Tessema Astatkie, Dalhousie University, Canada and training on “Academic Program Quality Audit” organized by Wolkite University in 2016. He has been actively involved in various extracurricular activities like community service at Wolkite University and prepared “Self Document Evaluation” of Biology department, Wolkite University. Currently, he is serving as Head of Department of Biology, Wolkite University. He also published his research outcome on African journal of biotechnology and reviewed manuscripts for African Journal of Biotechnology.

Remark

1

Genetic diversity of Ethiopian hot peppers cultivars using ISSR markers

In this study, PCR based Inter simple sequence repeats (ISSR)  molecular markers were used to analyze genetic diversity and relationships among 73 peppers (Capsicum species) accessions originating from eight geographical regions of Ethiopia. The highest diversity was obtained from Amhara1.

Completed and on review for publication

2

Selection & Screenings of Ethiopian Hot Pepper (Capsicum Species) Cultivars for Salt Tolerance

Selection and identification of the salt tolerant cultivars / varieties would therefore be of immense value for agriculture indicating which variety has to expand to which region of the country. To best of our knowledge there were no any previous salinity related work conducted on Ethiopian hot peppers cultivars both in in vitro and ex vitro condition. In present study, salinity tolerance of the selected cultivars of sesame was assessed in green houses using NaCl as a potential salt since saline soil is mostly dominated by sodium and chloride ions.

At wolkite university and on June, 2018.

Genetic Variability and Character Associations in Some Bread Wheat Genotypes (Triticum aestivum L.) at Gurage Zone, Ethiopia

Considering the importance of genetic variability is a basic breeding tool for improvement. This study will be conducted to evaluate the genetic advance and selection of suitable diverse parents for yield and yield-related traits in future breeding program.
