An overview of the Department of Physics

The Department of Physics at Wolkite University was established under the College of Natural and Computational Sciences to provide high-quality education, promote scientific inquiry, and contribute to Ethiopia’s development through advanced training and research in physical sciences. Physics is central to understanding the natural world and is foundational to much scientific and technological advancement.

Since its establishment, the department has offered a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Physics program with the goal of preparing graduates who are equipped with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in classical and modern physics. In response to the growing need for high-level professionals, the department has also initiated a Master of Science (MSc) in Physics, focusing on specialized and research-oriented training.

The department supports the teaching of physics across various programs including engineering, health sciences, and computer science, and is engaged in multidisciplinary research, laboratory training, and community service activities.
