Educational Background:

Atnafu Gebremeskel is an academic with a foundation in both engineering and economics. He began his career as an electrical engineer before transitioning to economics, where he earned a BA, followed by an MSc a PhD with a specialization in Monetary Economics. His academic journey also includes a Master's degree in International Economics from Addis Ababa University (AAU) and further studies in Monetary Economics and Econometrics at the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Research Interests:
Atnafu's research interests are diverse yet focused, encompassing integration economics and monetary economics, particularly in the context of inflation. He is keenly interested in Economic Methodology, the Philosophy of Sciences, and Political Economy, with a particular emphasis on Ethiopian economic history.

Teaching and Mentorship:
Throughout his career, Atnafu has taught various courses at AAU and other public and private universities, engaging both undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is deeply committed to mentorship, advising numerous MSc students and co-advising three PhD students—two from Walaga University and one from AAU.

Professional Roles:
Atnafu has held several significant positions within academic and professional institutions. He has served as the Chairperson of the Department of Economics at AAU for three consecutive years, from November 2022 to February 2025. Additionally, he is an active member of the Executive Committee of the Ethiopian Economic Association (EEA), contributing to the advancement of economic discourse in the region.

Current Position:
Currently, Atnafu serves as the Interim Executive Dean for the College of Business and Economics at AAU, where he continues to influence the academic landscape through his leadership and expertise.
