Overview of the Department of Educational Planning and Management
The Department of Educational Planning and Management (EDPM) at Wolkite University is a key academic unit under the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. It is committed to developing qualified professionals who can effectively lead, plan, and manage educational institutions and systems in Ethiopia and beyond. The department was established in response to the growing need for skilled education managers, planners, and policy analysts capable of addressing the complex challenges facing the education sector.
Through a comprehensive and interdisciplinary curriculum, the department trains students in the principles of educational leadership, policy development, strategic planning, resource management, and quality assurance in education. The program integrates theory with practical field experience, research, and community engagement, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the competencies necessary to transform educational institutions and contribute to national development goals.
The department currently offers a Bachelor of Arts in Educational Planning and Management and is planning to expand into postgraduate studies and professional development programs to further its impact.
Objectives/Goals

Duties and Responsibilities of the Department
Ø Academic Program Delivery: Design and implement curriculum for undergraduate (and future postgraduate) programs, ensuring relevance and alignment with national standards.
Ø Research and Knowledge Production:: Conduct and promote research in educational leadership, planning, and management to inform policy and improve practice.
Ø Student Support and Mentorship: Provide academic advising, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to students throughout their studies.
Ø Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with local schools, education bureaus, and community organizations to address practical education challenges.
Ø Professional Development Services: Offer short-term training and workshops for education professionals to enhance leadership, planning, and administrative skills.
Ø Institutional Collaboration: Build partnerships with local, national, and international institutions to share knowledge, support innovation, and improve education service delivery.
Ø Monitoring and Evaluation: Support the implementation of education programs and reforms through evaluation studies, impact assessments, and policy feedback.
