Goal/Objective
The goal of the Executive of Peace and Security is to ensure a safe, secure, and peaceful learning and working environment for students, staff, and the university community. The Executive is committed to proactively managing risks, preventing conflicts, and upholding institutional integrity through coordinated security strategies, conflict resolution mechanisms, and strong collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Campus Security Management
- Design and implement strategies to maintain the security of the university’s campuses, facilities, and property.
- Coordinate campus patrols and surveillance to deter threats and respond promptly to incidents.
- Peace Building and Conflict Prevention
- Develop and implement peace building initiatives and conflict resolution strategies across the university community.
- Facilitate dialogue and awareness programs to promote a culture of tolerance, unity, and mutual respect among students and staff.
- Emergency Preparedness and Response
- Establish and maintain emergency response protocols to handle natural disasters, violence, or any form of crisis.
- Organize regular training and simulation exercises for staff and students on emergency response and safety practices.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders
- Work closely with federal and regional security institutions, local administration, and community stakeholders to address external threats and ensure coordinated responses.
- Monitoring and Risk Assessment
- Identify and assess potential risks or security threats and take proactive measures to mitigate them.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents and develop reports for leadership decision-making.
- Support for Student and Staff Safety
- Provide direct support for conflict-affected students and staff and ensure grievance redress mechanisms related to safety and security are functional and accessible.
- Training and Awareness Creation
- Organize trainings, workshops, and awareness campaigns on campus peace, safety protocols, and conflict prevention strategies.
- Policy Implementation
- Ensure the enforcement of institutional security policies and contribute to the development and revision of safety-related guidelines and regulations.
- Information Security Support
- Coordinate with IT and administrative units to support information security and protect sensitive university data.
- Reporting and Communication
- Prepare and submit regular security and peace situation reports to the University President’s Office and participate in institutional decision-making platforms related to safety and risk management.
