Objectives/Goals
1. To ensure a smooth academic and social transition for freshman students into university life.
2. To provide structured academic and personal support, addressing the unique needs of first-year students.
3. To coordinate orientation programs and ongoing support services that enhances student engagement, retention, and success.
4. To ensure compliance with university policies and procedures related to first-year student management.
5. To promote student well-being and foster a sense of community among freshman cohorts.
Duties and Responsibilities
A. Student Support and Development
- Identify and address academic, social, and emotional challenges facing first-year students.
- Facilitate access to tutoring, mentoring, and psychological counseling services.
- Organize personal development workshops (e.g., time management, study skills).
B. Orientation and Transition Management
- Plan and coordinate orientation programs at the beginning of each academic year.
- Provide informational sessions on academic regulations, campus resources, and university life.
- Collaborate with departments to introduce academic programs and support systems.
C. Academic Advising and Monitoring
- Support academic advising and help freshmen understand course requirements and registration procedures.
- Monitor the academic progress of freshman students and provide timely interventions.
- Maintain individual or group records of student performance and engagement.
D. Liaison and Coordination
- Serve as the primary contact between freshmen and university offices such as Registrar, Library, Student Services, and Academic Departments.
- Work closely with department heads and instructors to identify students in need of support.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians when necessary and appropriate.
E. Policy Implementation and Reporting
- Ensure that university policies related to student conduct, academic integrity, and attendance are clearly communicated and followed.
- Prepare periodic reports on freshman student issues, progress, and recommendations for improvement.
- Recommend policy enhancements based on observed challenges and student feedback.
F. Event and Program Coordination
- Organize social, academic, and cultural events aimed at increasing engagement and sense of belonging.
- Encourage student participation in clubs, student unions, and community service initiatives.
