The Department of Statistics at Wolkite University is an integral part of the College of Natural and Computational Sciences, established to meet the growing demand for statistical professionals capable of contributing to Ethiopia’s data-driven decision-making and development planning. The department is committed to delivering rigorous training in statistical theory, applied statistics, data analysis, and statistical computing.
It offers a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Statistics and provides service courses to other departments across the university. The department equips students with strong quantitative skills, critical thinking abilities, and practical experience in statistical tools and software. Objectives/Goals

Duties and Responsibilities
Academic Instruction
ü Provide undergraduate courses in areas such as probability theory, statistical inference, regression analysis, design of experiments, multivariate analysis, and statistical computing.
ü Offer service courses in statistics and quantitative methods to other departments including health sciences, social sciences, business, and agriculture.
ü Supervise student research projects and guide thesis writing with a focus on data analysis and interpretation.
Research and Innovation
ü Conduct applied and theoretical research in areas such as biostatistics, econometrics, environmental statistics, demographic analysis, and statistical modeling.
ü Support interdisciplinary research by providing statistical consultation and collaboration with other academic units.
Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance
ü Regularly revise academic programs to integrate modern statistical methods, software tools, and market-relevant skills.
ü Ensure the quality of teaching, learning, and student assessment in line with national and global academic standards.
Capacity Building and Professional Development
ü Organize seminars, workshops, and short-term training in statistical literacy and data analysis for students, staff, and external stakeholders.
ü Encourage faculty development through postgraduate studies, certifications, and research participation.
Community Engagement and Consultancy
